Colon Cancer

I have a friend that has had bone cancer for 5 years, he finished treatments about 2 years ago and he was in remission. Recently during a checkup the Dr found a spot on his liver, he said this could not be from the bone cancer so they did a colonoscopy on him and found that he's in stage 4 of colon cancer and the treatments he is getting now will only prolong his life a little. What can you tell me about stage 4 and about how much time does he possibly have? I know that we can't predict the amount of time but one article stated 6-9 months. Could it be that long? I had an uncle with colon cancer and he died 3 months after they detected it.

I am female 37 and was diagonosed 6 years ago with stage iv colon cancer that had spread to the liver. THe tumor on the colon was removed and the cancer that had gone the liver was removed surgically. Since then I have done 2 cycles of chemo and had 2 surgeries as the cancer returned twice to liver. I am still alive today. I don't know all the details of whether his cancer is operable - if it is this is good. May want to get a second opinion from an aggressive surgeon.
