My story begins Jan 2010 when I swallowed a half chewed large piece of eggs & bacon.
I knew I had hurt my throat doing it but didn’t think anything of it. As the weeks rolled on my throat esophageal area began showing signs of distress, harder to swallow, feeling of lump in throat, coughing blood. My husband is going through a similar ordeal. He was diagnosed with esophageal (squamous) cell in the gastric cardia. He had difficulty swallowing in late August. He also was very healthy so we thought! The waiting for all the results and staging seemed endless as you just don't know what is going to happen - but once your team has a plan you will fair better. He had a 2 month course of chemo (Carboplatin and Taxol) which started to work immediately. He was able to swallow and eat. He has gained his weight back. He then started radiation for 28 days with low dose chemo once a week. In two weeks he will have an esophagectomy to take out the residual tumor.We wish you all the best!
