Signs and Symptoms

Symptoms of GI bleeding vary and depend on the location, cause, and severity of the condition. Bleeding from the stomach or esophagus can result in vomiting or spitting up bright red blood and dark, tar-like stools. Bleeding from the lower GI tract can produce bright red blood in the stool.
