Diagnosis

Hemorrhoid diagnosis usually involves a simple examination of the anal and rectal area. During the physical exam, the physician often uses a gloved finger to check for swollen tissue and any other abnormalities. If internal hemorrhoids are suspected, the physician may use a lighted device (e.g., proctoscope, anoscope) to examine the rectal area.
